It’s time for all of us who care about refugees to speak out against violence.
Zimbabweans in South Africa have fled state terrorism in Zimbabwe, and now they are fleeing the Western Cape. We don’t want violence and abuse of immigrants for whatever reason, or for political victimisation.
In Zimbabwe we housed many foreign nationals during the time of apartheid; many South Africans were living with us. So whoever is promoting or inciting violence against Zimbabweans in South Africa must be challenged.
We want peace and coexistence; not the game of blaming each other or blaming foreigners for everything from crime to taking jobs. That is cheap propaganda.
Zimbabwe will never be peaceful as long as leaders who were perpetrating violence are still in power and still using the same tactics of beating and torturing political enemies.
We urge people to assist the Zimbabwean refugees, people under siege, by speaking up for them.
